2012 Election

Question One

In addition to the narrative in your ballot packet, the following files may be helpful to you in order to understand why the previous State Committee voted to amend the party bylaws on March 31st, 2011 and refer the matter to you.

During the regular March annual convention in 2010 the following reform proposal was adopted:  Link

A special convention was called for November 2010 to adopt new governing documents, and a 2 day convention was scheduled so delegates would have appropriate time to amend and consider the proposals offered. The then Libertarian National Committee Inc. Chairperson, Mark Hinkle, and Secretary, Alicia Mattson, arrived and offered their opinions about quorum requirements and ultimately then Libertarian Party of Oregon Chairperson, Jeff Weston, agreed with their interpretation that half of the membership would need to be in attendance to hold a convention. The members at that convention after hearing these issues voted to adjourn without conducting any business.

Because the members could no longer meet due to quorum issues, the judicial committee was vacant and could not be reseated except by convention, the previous state committee adopted new bylaws and offered these reasons: Link

They were adopted with the following provisos: Link

Official 2012 Primary Candidates

75pxlogoThis is the current list of open offices for the 2012 election and our official primary candidates. The Libertarian Party of Oregon does participate in fusion nominations, however, it is important to note that our party rules only defer to fusion election results in the event that no libertarian electors have received votes for that office, are eligible to run in the general election with our party nomination AND have completed all the administrative requirements to secure their position on the ballot in the time frame specified by party rules.

If you wist to be listed on this list as a write-in candidate in the hopes of winning our primary, please send your name, email address, position sought, party affiliation and campaign website to Wes Wagner and Bruce Knight (wes.wagner - at - gmail.com AND b.a.knight -at- gmail.com )

LPO Requests Funds for Election Announcement

We have a great opportunity to make 2012 the best year for the Libertarian Party of Oregon, and an urgent need to make it happen, and we are already half-way there!

In Oregon, major parties receive a state subsidy in the form of a primary election, mailed to the house of every one of their members at taxpayer expense for the purpose of choosing political candidates. In the past, the Libertarian Party of Oregon has held only nominating conventions with very limited attendance at our own expense.

Well this year is different!

Instead of holding a nominating convention, we will be mailing ballots out to all 13,000+ members of the Libertarian Party of Oregon to select our candidates for office. Unfortunately, since this has never been done before, few Libertarians in Oregon know that they are going to receive this ballot, nor how to place themselves on it as a candidate. They also don’t know how to get involved with the party, and have never been invited!

To be a successful political party, the most important measures are how many votes your candidates receive. Therefore we would like to have as many candidates as possible, as many active volunteers as possible, support as many activists as possible, and that is why we need your help.

To send out an information packet to all of our members so they will know how to get started on a campaign and contribute to our election process will cost approximately $5000. The good news is that we already have $2800 of it covered and we are already more than halfway there! (Editor’s note: $200 came in while asking for help on proofreading, so we only need $2000)

Please make your best donation to this cause at our website: http://www.lporegon.org via the donation link on the right-hand side of the page.

We have an opportunity to dramatically grow the level of participation of Libertarians this year and make a major impact. Dissatisfaction among youth voters has rarely been higher and people are looking for new ideas and new options.

More than anything, politics requires tireless dedicated people, and we have over 13,000 members who identified themselves as libertarians. There has never been a better time to rally them and build an organization that will lead us to future electoral victories.

Please make your best contribution to help elevate the Libertarian Party of Oregon to the level of Oregon's major parties. We can't wait any longer. We would like to get the printers started first thing on Monday!

You can make your contribution through our website at http://www.lporegon.org and following the link to donate, or this direct URL:  https://secure.donortownsquare.com/SSL/process.aspx?ai=1356&qs=WFPXR&amt=100

Sincerely,
Wes Wagner

Chairperson, Libertarian Party of Oregon
