Libertarian Party of Oregon Public Policy Board Resolution 23-06 Regarding Measure 110

The Libertarian Party has advocated for unrestricted drug legalization in the national platform since 1976.

Oregon: The Libertarian Party of Oregon Public Policy Board announced Resolution 23-06 Regarding Measure 110, a resolution voted on by the elected Public Policy Board.

This resolution declares that the Libertarian Party of Oregon advocates full legalization as necessary to increasing the safety of addicts and reducing the cost of product that drives many users to commit crimes.

“Decriminalizing drugs in Oregon and ending the incarceration of citizens for victimless crimes is the right step for Oregon, ” says Sonja Feintech, Public Policy Board Secretary at the Libertarian Party of Oregon. “However the state of Oregon is failing to support victims of criminal activity who have no due process since measure 110s implementation. We must enable the market, through reputation and third party certifications, to regulate products. We also need to enforce laws protecting persons and property, and support businesses and citizens to operate without the threat of undeterred violence and theft.”

This resolution includes:

Whereas, the Libertarian Party of Oregon advocates full legalization as necessary to increasing the safety of addicts and reducing the cost of product that drives many users to commit crimes.

Whereas, the Oregon justice system has consistently failed to arrest and prosecute for crimes against persons and property.

Whereas, more treatment options would accommodate a greater range of individual recovery needs and constraints.

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Libertarian Party of Oregon supports all efforts toward complete drug legalization, to remove all barriers to new treatment facilities, and that so long as the state maintains a monopoly of the criminal justice system, calls upon the governments of Oregon to arrest and prosecute all crimes against persons or their property.

This Resolution will be available starting 10/18/23, for public dissemination. For more information on PPB resolutions, visit www.lporegon.org/category/public-policy/.
