The Libertarian Party of Oregon is proud to announce that we received the call to fight for civil liberties and we answered!
Party Chair Sonja Feintech was asked two weeks ago if the LPO would be interested in joining an Amicus Curiae for a civil asset forfeiture case going to the Supreme Court. Within a few hours she had a resounding and unanimous YES from the LPO Executive Committee. With just a few hours left to jump on board we filed our Intent to File, the first Libertarian Party state affiliate to do so.
There are now 23 organizations signed onto 9 amicus briefs spanning the full spectrum—criminal justice reform groups, political parties, think tanks, crypto advocates, First Amendment defenders, civil liberties organizations—plus over five members of Congress and statewide elected officials.
What an incredible mobilization of libertarians and activists standing behind Tim Barton in his petition for certiorari in Barton v. SEC—a case challenging the government’s ability to seize businesses and property through SEC receiverships without a criminal conviction and without a Seventh Amendment jury trial.
