Run for Office with the Libertarian Party of Oregon

Ready to fight for liberty, limited government, and individual rights right here in Oregon?

The Libertarian Party of Oregon (LPO) is actively seeking principled candidates to run for public
office at every level, from local races to statewide positions. If you're committed to personal
freedom, free markets, non-aggression, and slashing government overreach, we want you on
the ballot representing the LPO!

We're building a stronger presence in Oregon by nominating candidates who will boldly advance
libertarian principles. Whether you're running for city council, county commissioner, state
legislature, or higher office, the LPO stands ready to support you with nomination, visibility, and
a growing network of activists.

LPO Co-Nomination Process (per 2013 Bylaws)

The LPO nominates candidates through a Nominating Convention held in June (exact date
TBD), as provided for in our governing bylaws.

Under these rules (Article XI – Nominating Conventions, and related sections):

● Registered Libertarian members (those affiliated as Libertarian with the Oregon
Secretary of State) receive priority in nominations. If one or more Registered members
receives a majority vote for an office, the Registered member with the most votes
becomes the nominee.

● If no registered member achieves a majority, but one or more Regular members (dues-
paying LPO members who have signed the non-aggression pledge, can be registered
with another party) receives a majority, the Regular member with the most votes
becomes the nominee.

● This process allows dedicated libertarians, including those not registered as Libertarian
with the state, to earn the nomination when they demonstrate strong support at
convention.

The convention is the key decision point where delegates (Registered LPO members) select our
nominees for the general election ballot. This co-nomination approach (balancing Registered
and Regular member priorities) ensures the most liberty-focused candidate advances while
respecting our bylaws and Oregon's minor-party rules.

Next Steps for Potential Candidates

To qualify for consideration at the June Nominating Convention (date TBD), interested
candidates must complete and submit required questionnaires. These help the LPO verify
alignment with libertarian principles, eligibility, and commitment.
Candidate Qualification Questionnaires:

LPO 2026 Statewide Candidate Questionnaire
LPO 2026 Congressional Candidate Questionnaire

Once submitted, you'll be in the loop for convention details, delegate voting, and eligible for our
upcoming “Nominating Prep: Informed Choices” delegate educational series. We may also
reach out for additional information or to confirm your intent to accept nomination if selected.
